It’s 1833. Public riots are taking place in the streets of London over the abolition of slavery. Edmund Kean is the greatest actor of his time. When he collapses on stage during a performance of Othello, young black actor Ira Aldridge is asked to stand in. Based on a real-life story, Red Velvet depicts an actor's professional struggle in the face of widespread prejudice in London society.
